Playtime in the 20's & 30's

Party Animals
BERTRAND ISLAND

One of the big party places of the day, sadly it no longer exists.

It was an amusement park located in northern NJ, at Lake Hopatcong.

Mom took this picture of her girlfriends and their car; notice the ukelele.

My Mom was a Flapper!

ROMANCE NOVEL

He was so handsome,
the young man from the South,
she was so shy,
the young woman from the North,
it was fate that drew them together....

Actually, it was coffee,
he spilled it on her.

But that simply doesn't have the same melodramatic flair.

Picnic?

Aunt Bert, Aunt Ann, Mom
FLAPPERS

All dressed up, going somewhere.

A Charleston Contest?

A Speakeasy?

Speculation is such fun!

Kids at Play

Aren't they darling?

Aunt Babe and Aunt Nelly, their dolls and of course,
a kitten.

There was always a kitten.

I believe some of these dolls are still around.

CAPTAIN DORIS & CAPTAIN JACK

They are disguised as sailors in order to escape pirates?

Doubtful.

But it does look like they are having fun.

I wonder if he stood up.

I wonder if she fell off.

Fun for the Kids
OFF TO THE MALL

Back in the '20's and '30's, cars
were not as common as today.

If you wanted to take the kids
to the Mall, this was the way to go.

It was slow, but reliable.

My Mother and Father

My mother always told me that it was sooo important to always
act like a lady when dating.

Nice that you guys set the example!

I have no clue.

Aunt Nelly on the left looks like she's quite amused.

Mom, Dad, and Aunt Babe (?) on the right
appear to be frightened.

Grandpa is protecting unknown young ladies in the middle.

Some guy is behind all of them.

I would love to know this story!

YACHTING, ANYONE?

OK, so this picture might be just a little redundant,
but I love it.

They look like a prime example of a socialite pair.

Just don't think about the picture a few scrolls up. *grin*
